Population Growth in the Tampa Bay Area

Almost everywhere you look in Florida, especially in the Tampa Bay area; it’s obvious to see growth, development and demand.  Very recent studies show that Florida is projected to add over 303,000 new residents per year between 2021 and 2025. The outlook beyond also shows continued population growth as well.  To put that number in perspective and for comparison, as of 2021, the city of Orlando has 290,500 residents.  

The Tampa Bay area is estimated to receive a large part of this growth.  The areas of Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties are estimated to grow by a little more 216K new residents from 2021-2025 and almost 200K between 2025-2030.  If including the data for the neighboring counties of Manatee and Sarasota, the growth for this area of west central Florida is even greater.

According to www.censusreporter.org – 37% of Florida’s population is between the ages of 20-49 and 40% are 50 years old and above.  

All this growth will result in a time of great opportunity, but also of choice for Dermatology physicians. 

There are going to be many groups and practices that are slow or resistant to change.  Any uptick in demand for services will result in higher expectations on their physicians, advanced practitioners and support staff.  In this reactionary type group there will be increased pressure to see more patients, work harder and longer hours. 

Ultimately this becomes a stressful work environment that over time leads to poor morale, unhappiness and dissatisfaction.  You'll work harder to make the same earnings and could potentially see earnings decline as these groups struggle. 

In contrast...

There exists proactive organizations that are prepared and already growing to meet the demand, while still maintaining a consistent level of service and practice environment that the patients, physicians and staff are happy with.  The leadership of these groups understand the value of having a positive team culture and prioritize provider and staff retention. They understand that collectively this all fuels further growth.

Dermatology physicians that make the choice to be part of a proactive organization like this, are positioned to realize a higher career satisfaction, happier work place and a greater financial earning ability.
